I’ve toyed with the idea of doing the C2C for a couple of years now, but it’s got no further than that. But in 2011 when I completed my first long distance path in one go (Cumbria Way), the idea became more attractive.
Wainwright’s C2C has become quite popular in recent years, and from reading various people’s accounts of it, I feel like I already know the path quite well! I made the decision to not follow the “official” route, and to do it in the spirit of Wainwright himself, as the great man himself said:
“…I want to encourage in others the ambition to devise with the aid of maps their own cross-country marathons and not be merely followers of other people’s routes…”
I really enjoyed the fact that I did my own Cumbria Way variation, which was harder and longer than the official route. And now I want to give the same treatment to the coast to coast.
This page gathers together the posts relating to this project, from the initial planning through to the eventual carrying out of the walk.
