Cath joined me on the Saturday and we opted to stay at the YHA in Coniston due to the forecast. Then we headed back into the Coniston fells and walked over them down to the Three Shire Stone. Having camped around here the previous winter, when we didn’t find a suitable pitch by the tarn itself, we descended a short way down the gill looking for a flat, dry spot. Despite some initial scepticism by Cath, this was perfectly dry. The next morning, though we found evidence of previous occupants that had blown in during the night, or that we’d not spotted before.
