Walking the River Lea (Part 3)

Ponders End to Broxbourne

*I didn’t take many photos on this walk, and a lot of the more interesting images ended up on video (linked below)*

A day starting and ending with rail replacement buses. Which reduced the available time to walk, and hence the distance walked.

Back at Ponders End, I retraced my steps back to the canal and headed north, once more following the line of reservoirs that lead up the Lea Valley.

Not far into the walk I came across this chair decorated with old postage stamps.

I was soon at Enfield Lock, and although I passed this way when I did the London LOOP, it didn’t seem that familiar. After that, much of the walk was along deserted canal, with just the odd runner passing me.

Much of the time the actual River Lea was right over the other side of the reservoir, and impractical to attempt to follow for any distance. So I stayed to the Lee Navigation this time. Occasionally, the Lea rejoined the Navigation.

Shortly before my lunch stop, I got to the M25, cars hurtling over the canal.

After Waltham Cross, the reservoirs were replaced by more naturally looking lakes and various small ponds.

I approached Broxbourne and had had enough for the day. The distance to the next sensible stopping point was more than I was prepared to do, so called it there and then. This leaves me 3 comfortable days or 2 much harder days to finish the walk.
